Promotional Products for Small Business

Promotional products play a key role for the publicity of a Small business. This mainly focuses on those small Businesses which cannot afford signing in big celebrities to endorse their products and which cannot afford the increasing costs of media advertising. Marketing through promotional campaigns is cheaper and more reliable than the other forms of marketing.

Before distributing promotional products the marketers should have a clear idea regarding which section of the community should their products target. They should set their goals and first think of how to use those promotional goods. Overspending or misuse of resources could spell doom to small businesses. So, careful steps need to be taken while promoting. The main factor is that you should be aware is that what are you expecting from those promotional products do you want to increase your business by creating awareness among masses or it that you want to boost the sales of your products. Firstly, you should be aware of what kind of products to use for promotion and whom to target like children, ladies upper class middle class .etc Normally, small house hold goods are used as promotional products like mouse pads, mugs, caps and calendars. These products are house hold products which are commonly used by people in their daily life like a mouse pad with a company logo on it keeps on reminding about the company and when ever he or his colleagues want to buy the some product then that person would recommend your company product.

A small company having small business should be careful not to overestimate the budgets as well as not to spend aggressively on promotional products and promotional campaigns. It is always a good idea to have partnerships with other companies as this will decrease the budget. Joint promotional campaign will spread the word among the other product companies about your company and products. This is mainly done between the suppliers of the gifts and the promoting company. This lets the supplier to sell their products to you at a cheaper rate in return you let them print their logo on your promotional product and you make long term deals with them. Here also, you should be aware of the shell life the those products also aggressive purchases of low shelf life products will result only with huge go downs filled with outdated promotional items and if you use those outdated products for promoting this will brings down the reputation of the company and spread a negative thought among customers. Trust of the customers is the foundation of any good company.

  2. Niku Says:

Promotional products work best when they are part of the regular product, ie a Sean John shirt that looks good and has the name Sean John is promoting his product while giving the wearer the sense that he/she is sporting a desired look.

There is a lot of everyday use product, what you can use for promoting your business and brand. Since you can directly target desired group with certain promotional products, it might be a very cost efficient way of direct marketing tool…like giving out folders in conventions, or lanyards on trade fairs, etc.

Make your business well known through promotional items. Give it that glow and attention that is really needs. Maybe a customized hand bag with your logo? The key is to make sure your bag stands out from the crowd. A catch phrase that is both funny and easy to remember would do the job. It is like that of designing a website; keep it simple, clean and yet unique in style.

  6. Kayy Says:

Promotional items needn’t be hugely expensive either. A popular choice amongst writers for example is a bookmark with their book details and website emblazoned on it plus release date information if it’s for an upcoming one. Handy indeed if you’re promoting your book ahead of time! You can leave a pile of them in a library, bookstore or school or hand out at any presentations you give. Simple products can be both effective and cost effective.

Kayy, once again I agree with you. As we know, small business normally have small budget to spend on their marketing or advertising. However, it doesn’t mean they could not success in their business, isn’t?

As stated above, promotional campaign is cheaper and reliable. So, their could use this strategy. :-)

The important thing is planning the marketing strategies. Be creative and try to think outside the box.

I agree that joint-venture also could help spread your business and minimize your marketing cost. Make sure choose right partners and win-win situation deal.

Promotional products for small business , of course as kayy says need not be expensive in order to gain attention of the public. Indeed even an inexpensive product may do all the needy to gain its own reputation, it all depends on the type of product we promote, it can be either a Tshirt, a pen stand, a stapler , or even a paper weight.

As you pointed out correctly, a small business probably has limited promotional budget (or for that matter a limited budget for everything). So the trick is to make every gift count to maximise the available resources. Think through what you want to achieve and by the most economic means without sacrificing quality.

A perfecting looking blog. Not just the simple pages, but the content is also informative. I knew all about promotional gifts and how to provide them only after going through your blog.

  12. Gary Says:

Being a business of 1 I use promotional products religiously. Yes, you do have to pay attention to budget, but I find that the items that I use are incredibly cost effective. I know its not for short term gain, but for long term exposure and identitity with my customers. Granted, I don’t overdo it either. Any small business should have these in their marketing arsenal. If you don’t..I think you’re missing the boat

  13. Andre Says:

I own a small business, it’s about selling clothes.
Currently, I didn’t use any promotional product to promote my product. But I give some discount percentage for each sale. It’s really effective and fit with my small business. I do think that giving any promotional product for my small business will be very costly.
So I think, promotional gift is not too important for small business.
