Promotional Pens - The Write Choice
People use pens at home, in school, in the office and on the go. Business people have seen the necessity of these handy items in a person’s everyday life. That is why they have come up with the very wise idea of using pens in promoting their business.
There are several types of promotional pens available in the market today, some of which are as follows:
Rollerballs and Ballpoints
Rollerball pens make use of water-based ink that will run even when wet. These pens have a special ball mechanism and require less pressure when used in writing. On the other hand, ballpoint pens make use of oil-based ink that will not run when damped or wet. They also require less pressure and can be ideally used with carbon papers.
Stick, Click, and Twist
Stick pens, which are the most common promotional pen design, simply have barrels and caps. Click pens use a clicking mechanism to retract or expose the pen’s point while twist pens make use of a twist mechanism. The latter two pen designs can also serve as stress relief toys.
Markers and Highlighters
Promotional markers and highlighters are also popular. These items generally have larger areas for you to imprint your company logo and contact information. Although markers and highlighters are also used at homes and in schools, they are most commonly seen in offices and business facilities.
Unique Unconventional Promotional Pens: Novelty, Light-up and Message
Countless promotional pens are being distributed and some of these truly stand out. Novelty pens may feature a theme or shape that will match your message or brand. Glow and light-up pens are simply traffic magnet because of their attractive and out-of-the-ordinary style. Message pens have click mechanism to reveal a scrolling message, allowing you to display more information about the products and services that your company has to offer.
Multifunction and Stylus Pens
Some pens may not only serve for writing purposes. Others are simply multifunctional as they will include mini calendar, hair brush, etc. These types of promotional pens intensify the possibility, as well as the frequency, that your pen will be used more than any other ordinary pens.
Pens are functional promotional items, and there really are so many pen styles to select from. Your customers have probably received other promotional pens before, so it is very important that you must be able to decide on the right choice of pen that will best represent your advertising message.

Great thing to use as a promotion tool. Who doesn’t use pens? You have students, teachers, officers, policemen and many, many more! Everybody uses them!
But make sure that they are of good quality. The thing I hate the most is when I receive a free pan which lasts for a day

I do agree that click and the twists pen are stress reliever. It is something which I really used whenever I feel stress out in school and it help me a lot. I have even read in some article before that spending 10 minutes a day with a pen and paper can boost your health like writing a diary. Markers and Highlighters are also good to used in highligthing documents and files that are of importance in order to note down the most important things rather than go over the whole documents or files.
Pens are great promotional tool since it is compact and it is easier to carry and they tend to keep it and use it as well.

I think I have a different view in this.
I believe that Multifunction and Stylus Pens are good promotional pens. Because, firstly the promotional item needs to attract others, then only the purpose is fulfilled. I don’t think other items mentioned can attract people than these. Once others are attracted by its look and its operating nature, they will atleast enquire about that pen, which is our success.

I think that pens are the most common way of promoting a given company. It’s just because everybody uses them everyday. But as Kempos said, you don’t just have to put the logo on a simple pen. You have to make sure it’s outlooking is nice and it lasts for long, and that it’s comfortable to use.

Its a worthy promotional tool. Many people get attracted to it. For example:
Rollerballs and Ballpoints
Markers and Highlighters
Multifunction and Stylus Pens
As one of my friend said that, everyone uses pen. Pen is useful for every one whether he is a child or an adult.

Clicking pens are probably the best investment as people are more likely to sit around and click them, bringing attention to the pen itself where you are advertising. Pen promotion is a good tool I have noticed used well by Commerce bank, as their pens are given away freely and found everywhere (even at competing banks sometimes )

First off, who doesn’t like to get something free. I get all sorts of these promotional pens at my work all the time. Most of them are great and I wouldn’t part with them. Others not so great. If the pen falls apart after a couple uses, it makes me think about the service of that company. I do think they are good promotional item however I do think if you use that item it should be of good quality. Cause that pen is representing your business.

Everyone write, form kids till old people. And there is plenty of different pen, so, you can choose a different type to reach schoolkids, and another type for businessman. These pens can be used everyday, so, they will everyday remind the user to your brandname, seeing it on the pen. This will strengthen your brand recognition, thus make pens a great promotional tool.

One thing I’ve noticed about pens is if they have a humorous saying, I tend to not only notice the brand, but also share it with others. I’ve mistakenly taken pens from restaraunts that say “This pen was stolen from ” It’s hilarious, because it reminds you that you have been to that place, and that you absent mindedly took their pen. That is an example of a business realizing that people are going to walk of with their pens by accident (or on purpose at times) if they like it or not, so why not capitalize. With as much stress as everyone has on a daily basis, I think a good laugh can go a long way.

im of the opinion that promotional pens are good way of marketing ones company….. because all of use pens to write down lists and other stuff and we more often than not notice the brand imprinted on the pen and identify ourselves with it…. and even better is the fact that it is used by all our family members and hence many more people get to know about it… and all of this for one single pen…

Much of my work involves paper work and taking notes by writing. I do receive lots of phone calls during the day. I need something in my hand to write down those numbers. I tear a part my office desk in hopes to finding a writing tool. I better hurry up and take down this clients phone number. He or she is about to hang up. At the last second, I am saved by a pen. Thank you! My heart can stop beating at a fast pace. After getting off the phone with my client, I check to see who gave me this pen. I noticed a business name is engraved on the back. Well, I’ll never forget that business for saving my life and putting money in my pocket.

My preferred pen is Click type. I like click type of pen which is very convenient and small. You are right on the stress release part for this type of pen. It looks not that expensive to me. If the company have low budget on choosing a pen, maybe they should go for click type. Plus, there are so many innovative designs that add lights, colors, etc on click type pen to impress the users.

As long as the pen is a good quality one, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s a ballpoint or click one. What I don’t want is a pen that’s going to leak or run out of ink in two days. Just as a good promotional item reflects well on a company, a shoddy one says a lot about you as well. I always used to check pens with a quick scribble before handing any out in case they’d dried up or left gobs of ink on the page. Make sure your freebie says what you want it to about you and doesn’t work against you.
October 24th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
i like the cap type pens better than the click ones as they click ones make an irritating type of sound and each u want to write u have to click and after finishing again a click is required as the ink dries if left in the open…. but with the cap type pens it is much easier as it involves just putting it on and taking it off…. a ’shock’ pen is a unique one where when a person clicks and makes contact with the inner spring a small battery send a electric pulse that just pricks you… nice for a surprise!!!

I’ve experiences situation as Kempos and Kayy said above. Didonko also has stated great points about it. I think by giving poor quality of pens will decreasing your company credibility, isn’t?
From my opinion, if you giving any types of promotional gift such as promotional pens, please make sure it will benefit your customers when using it. Don’t give them a pen which always leak or run out of ink in two days (as Kayy mentioned) and etc.

Pen is a very very useful component , and it is one of the best way to promote the company’s products, giving a pen with the logo of the company to the clients, and other people will fetch a very good reputation. Use of Multifunction and Stylus Pens pens will also contribute .

Personally I do not like pens for a couple of reasons. It tend to get lost easily. Because of its long shape, it may not be easy to put your promotional message. Worst of all, quality is an issue. A leaking pen or one that cannot write at all will ruin the image of your company.

Pen is the easiest & most convenient of all promotional products. Everybody uses pen, every few hours / minutes it comes to use, so there is no other better & cheap product to advertise than the mighty pen.

Though I have read many articles on promotional gifts, I have not found any one so informative as yours. I have found it so informative for promoting the products.

Here is where I disagree on a promotional item. Granted, the costs are incredibly low but I think it’s effectiveness is also incredibly low just due to its inherent lifespan. Oh yes, I take them when I see them, but for the most part they either dont work after a period of time or they become lost. As far as promting brand awareness and company identity, personally I choose differently.
November 6th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
As a customer, I would love to get pen as promotional gift.
But as marketer, I don’t see any effect from using pen as promotional gift. It’s too common item and their lifespan is not long.
Gary is right, the cost are low ( the lowest one I think ), but the effect is very low too. Better use other promotional gift.

For me, pen give-away is actually the most popular promotional item and this is true in almost any industry. Why is this most popular? Well, everybody could use pen…whether you are a student or not…everybody writes for sure.
Look at any office and right on the desktop, you will see some promotional pens printed with common brands and company logos. As for me, it does not matter what type of pen is being used for as long as there is an acceptable quality on it, it is fine with me. Of course, having your own specifically designed pen could also help a lot in pushing your marketing message.
November 7th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
This is one of the cheap promotional tools that can get into masses easily.
Every educated person uses it and is much essential item for students.
And even the WOM (word of mouth) publicity also increases..
btw, .. does anyone here remember the ‘ink pens’ where people have to refill with some ink every time it goes low..?

Pens what are marvelous invention! Pens are ideal, everyone and everybody needs a pen, they can easily be put in a bag, in your pocket in your suit jacket. And kept there until they are used, they are so handy in every sense. Like when you are in your car and you need a pen. Companies give them out willy nilly, and it is a great idea! Great way of promoting.

I personally would prefer ball pens over all the aforementioned designs
Twist mens may seem fancy, but they are also prone to malfunctioning.
Ink pens often dry up too quick, or have uneven ink flow
Highlighters would also be a good product

Rollerballs and Ballpoints is something that i use for all my writing works,so if i get it as a gift from any company then what can be better than that.Pens are the most useful promotinal product according to me because its used in day to day life.
Whether young or old its being used by all and if a company gives it for free than each time we use it,it reminds us of the brand which i think is a great business promoting idea.
November 11th, 2008 at 8:11 am
I don’t really find pens an attractive option as a promtional gift. it is very common and boring and tend to malfunction. Worse it leaks and creats a big inky mess.
But there is certainly room for pricier pens for choice customers.
November 12th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Pens are the most cost-effective promotional gift item for companies. Companies can order for this gift item in bulk and still distribute it to a lot of clients which could last them even a year. And they spend less for pens than those grand promotional giveaways such as bags, umbrellas, etc. Though, the company can also choose to use those expensive ones, too.

This promote company and mine business too because I am owner of medical agency. This helps me in increasing my customers. There type of business ideas are really helpful in business expansion.

Giving a pen as a promotion is a very good idea, pens is cheap useful and very common, thats make the pens the ideal promotion.

A parker or bic would be a good choice
