Promotional Gifts – The Top Ten Most Wanted
Giving promotional gifts works wonders to a business. It takes a company to new heights. Various products offered by promotional product suppliers are given by companies to employees to serve as incentive to attain company goals and as a reward for a job well done; to clients and customers as a token of appreciation and gratitude for continued patronage.
Promotional gifts given as prizes to local contests and tournaments would create goodwill for the company. If given to employees it would make for improved and increased levels of productivity, If given to customers it would improve customer loyalty and if given as trade show giveaway it would create brand awareness and would serve as an advertisement for the company. The list is endless and these are but a few of the benefits a company could get from giving a promotional gift.
Because of the innumerable benefits of giving promotional gifts, most companies have used this marketing strategy. While other companies gained the benefits expected from giving promotional gifts, others miserably failed to do so. This could be due to the fact that the chosen promotional product failed to gain the interest of the target audience or the product failed to create the desired company exposure. Whatever the case may be here is a list of the best seller promotional gifts. It is hoped that this could help you in making the right choice and ensure a productive and effective marketing campaign.
1. Desktop products –desktop calendars, clocks, organizers would provide the company maximum exposure as these are on the eye-level of the user. Every time it is used, company name recall will be generated.
2. Mugs – At home or in the office a person would always reach for a mug filled with hot beverage. A sip of hot coffee would provide a respite from mundane tasks.
3. Umbrellas – A big hit especially in UK where it rains most of the time. Provides an ideal imprinting space.
4. Pens – Aside from being affordable it is most wanted because of its usability
5. Key rings – Maximum exposure of company name is generated because of its constant use.
6. Bags – travel bags, sports bags, grocery bags… being carried anywhere and used over and over again, name recall is generated not only for the user but for other people as well.
7. Mouse and mouse mats – most people use computers these days and every time they do they will be reminded of your company
8. Apparel – these products would serve as your walking billboards
9. Stress toys – would provide amusement and relaxation
10. USB flash drives – although quite high end, this would be most useful as spread sheets and documents can be carried anywhere with ease.

Hey, nice tips you got there. Tell me what do you think about notepads as promotional gifts. I mean every time when you wright something down on it you see the company logo and info. Also when you need some info on something the first place you look for it, is your notepad.

This is comprehensive and wonderful list. I think every gift idea is amazing but i personally love the keyring as promotional gifts because of its longer and constant usage. USB flash drive is also a good option as this is very important in todays computer age and people will use it many times a day and will remember your company.

This is indeed a very useful and comprehensive list. With practically every PC or laptop sitting on every desk, computer accessories such as mouse pad and thumbdrives can become very relevant and useful for your target audience. Of course the major disadvantage of a USB drive is the small surface area available for your promotional messages. This however can serve as opportunities for greater creativity in design.

Nice article with a very detailed list. I guess the most effective and common one would be the pen. I myself have many pens from different organizations. I agree with geremy about notepads- They are good promotional gifts ,whenever you jot something down, you see the company name there.

This is a well thought our article. The most effective of all the above list is umbrella i feel. A place like England it would be a free advertisement for sure for the product/company. Umbrella appeals to me most.

I happen to agree with the premise of promotional gifts as I have been using them in my business constantly. Each item that you have listed I have used with a great amount of success in building a solid customer base. I may not agree with each items popularity though, although I do agree with the desktop items being the most popular. Any type of “Silent Salesman” that is in constant exposure to a customer certainly can not be overlooked. Lets face it, we human beings just love to get things from companies! I know I do.

Yes, getting things free could always excite anybody. And this is really true with promotional items. Usually, customers don’t really care if there is an accompanying brand being pushed, for as long as they are given away for free, everything is just fine.
The comprehensive list here of different type of promotional give-aways covers all the type as being used now in the market. The writer is certainly attuned with the present trend and realities of the marketplace.
Brand managers are always on the look-out for something effective at lesser cost. Reading this article could narrow down the choices depending on the needs and objectives of the company.

one of the most widely used promotional gift is pen, almost every company has its own pen with its brand name on it, I just really love to get pens like that because it is really useful for me and also it comes for free so who doesn’t want to have one?

Agree on the umbrella thing, arrow
You never know when it starts raining, and when it does, that promotional umbrella that you took earlier may just prove helpful. Not only does it make a good impression on the user, it also brings a lot of exposure.
Pens are helpful, but I have received many cheap, unreliable promotional pens that break soon after I start using them. Spending a few cents more and making a good pen would make a VERY good impression (user could use it for months)

Hmm its really a good list of promotional products which are surely going to grab customer’s attention.today people like gifts which are not just for show but also usefull in day to day life. And if companies give gifts used in day to day life then they will surely make them return and buy more in the future.
Thanks for sharing such a nice list which is promotional as well as useful information for all of us.

Stefan, I also think that the pen is the thing that a person uses most often - in his everyday life, in his work. Everybody needs a pen to put down some important information.
A constant convention in my country - competiting companies distribute promotional gifts simultaneously at big meetings and conferences to estimate user’s interest towards them. I guess it works - the strongest companies give away the most promotional products.

I feel mouse pad would be the most worthy of the above list to be called the best promotional gift. I got a gift from my friend who does marketing in a big company, i used it regularly. Whoever visits me keeps asking me from where i got this beautiful mouse pad.

It will be more cost effective if there is a common theme running all through the gifts - sort of like a series. Promtional messages can also form a cotinuous series - this way your company will be always on the mind of prospective clients. Let your promtional gifts tell your story!

Most big companies have been giving promotional gifts to prospective clients, it really gives good points to companies once they give company goodies with prints and logos as well as services on them. I agree that once the client, or a friend/relative, sees these promotional gifts on top of their desk or anywhere in their home, they’d immediately remember and could refer the company.

I think as we are in the Next Gen Pens Notepads will not make any sense as information in major companies needs to be shredded as a security measure.I personally believe a Mouse pads, Coffee Cups and Stress toys(like Stress Balls with the company Logo on it ) Recently in My company which is HSBC Coffee Cups and Stress Balls were given though doesnt make a Huge impact but the gift i think is personalized by the signature of ur Higher ups

I love the idea of the clock! I often have programs up on my computer that cover my computer desktop, and I don’t wear a watch, so I am always having to flip open the mobile to see what the time. The idea of a clock on my desk is quite appealing, and also something I never think to buy on my own.
The bags are great too, especially something more trendy, like a gym bag. This is a very health wary generation, after all.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Good ideas. I like the clock idea as well. It might cost a bit more, but its VERY useful everyone can always use another clock or two. I think people will look at a clock and potentially see your logo way more then they would, say, on a pen.
November 15th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
I agree, Ethan. I never pay attention to what company a pen came from, because I get so many. But something more original, like a clock, umbrella, anything that other people don’t use would be a great idea.
November 22nd, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Even i love the idea of Clock at my desk with a Holder which makes think tidier at my desk and also can keep the usefull things like pens, pencils,Staplers in it soo that it doesnt take too much of space and also can store soo much in it
Wat say?

Promotional gift must remain in front of people for most of time like keychain, mousepad, desktop calender etc. Idea is very effective to promote your product. I have ordered mousepads with my company logo and I am sure that it would work.

I just loved this reading. You people came up with some great ideas
That being said, I’ve love to add to this.
I am a business owner who travels a lot. I carry with me dress shirts and pants. I need to make a good impression with potential clients. This is where a good presser would come into play. I would so thank that company for helping to keep my clothes all neat. Heck, I would give them a kiss for this
