The Different Uses of Promotional Lanyards
Lanyards are very simple items that have a variety of applications. Perhaps the simplest use of lanyards is to hold identification cards, keys or tools. With the rapid changes afforded by technological advancements, new uses have arisen. Small electronic devices such as music players or cell phones can be kept safe by the use of lanyards. Other devices such as cameras and USB Flash drives come equipped with lanyards for ease of use and additional comfort.
Promotional lanyards are a common sight in conferences, schools and businesses. They are used to allow the user easy access to identification cards or access cards. Schools and universities commonly use identification cards to help control the security. Students use lanyards to allow their identification to be easily seen for that purpose. Recent advancements in technology have allowed these identification cards to serve as access cards, in case students need to enter a school library or register for a class.
That application is also commonly used in businesses. Employee identification cards are used by employees to enter restricted areas. The use of lanyards offers easy access for this purpose. Security is again a motivating factor for the increased use of lanyards to allow these identification cards to be displayed in a more effective way.
Conventions or trade fairs can be a very mixed experience. There are a lot of different activities happening simultaneously. There is a need for some to have an efficient and easy way to keep essential items. Some of the items include identification cards, access cards, keys and electronic devices. Lanyards are an elegant solution, which keeps all these items in person at all times in a readily available manner.
There are other applications, especially for promotional purposes. The different customisation options available allow companies to create lanyards for a specific purpose. A lanyard needs only to contain a durable strip of fabric and a clip for attachment purposes. Promotional lanyards can be designed in such a way as to allow companies to display their company message for all to see.
Adopting an eye-catching design in line with the company’s vision is very important. Company logos, mottos and colours can all help create a stylistic impression for the lanyard users. It allows them to identify the company involved with the promotional product. As an added bonus, it develops brand

I have come across lanyards for two purposes - one to hold security cards at my workplace and the other was at a recent music festival. The lanyard for the music festival was much sought after as it not only gave the running order of acts for the weekend, but a small biography and a map of the site. It proved so popular (and was part of the £10 press kit) that stocks ran short on the first day!

I have to say Pebbles that I had not thought of lanyards being used at music festivals, what a great idea, I must check with some other friends of mine who go to these sort of things to see if they have any.

Security breaks on lanyards are quite important, but too few people will spend the extra on them. There is a very good reason why they should, if a employee or customer gets the lanyard caught on a moving object, they could get serious hurt, public liability premiums can get hammered too.

Bec - I have kept mine from a recent festival as a keepsake! I agree with you Frank about security and am concerned about health and safety . In an office environment lanyards would be relatively safe but fairly risky when using heavy machinery or working in a factory.

Personally I love lanyards from the user point of views - they are stylish and useful for holding your access pass etc but from the sposnsored company point of view, lanyards may not be that useful in my personal view. This I think is because people tend to ignore the wordings or promotional message on the lanyards because the surface area is so small.

Apart from using them for office id, music festivals and promoting your company brand, I find my office one, which of cours carries my companies name and logo, great for attaching my ipod to and it has been known for me to hang my reading glasses from it. All in all it gets carried around quite a lot giving my company a log of coverage.

I agree with Carlos.
Nowadays lanyards are not only used for promotional propose but it is one of the cool accessories too. Student, office staff, crew and etc use it everyday.
My friends especially girls, decorate their lanyards creatively. Sometimes, I saw one so unique and great!

I’ve experienced a similar event as Pebbles described. We also received a lanyard on a boyscout event, which held the timetables, a map and our identification card. Before that I used to use lanyards to hold keys and id’s, but then I realised you can actually use it for anything you want.

Lanyards are very important to keep our device safe, especially the electronic devices which are costly. It is better to spend a few bucks on these things to keep our costlier items safe. I have an ipod and for some months I used it without any lanyard or any protection cover to keep it safe. My friend advised me to keep it safe, so I bought a lanyard because when we are spending hundreds of dollars on gadgets, it is better to spend a few bucks to protect them.

I can’t think of what is a lanyard in the moment, but by reading the text I can assume that it’s a very powerful promotion tool.Since it’s used in schools and business it has to be very common and high exposured at the same time.

Hi Didonko, A lanyard is a length of thinish material that can be hung around the neck with a clip attachment on the end that you can then clip things to like security badges, usbs, id cards even glasses. These get worn by people all day at the office and I have now seen children wearing them on the buses holding their bus passes.

Celeste is right. And when you know a lot of people that use electronics (ipods, usb flash, camera’s) they are amazing advertisement. They will be seen by many and will stay with the owner and not be thrown away or wasted.

Lanyards are useful promotional products. They will be very much helpful for the users. This will a very good impression and the user will have a sense of secured feeling of the gadgets and will thank you. He may be helpful in spreading your business by a word of mouth. If it is worn using an id card, it will publicly noticed by everyone.

Everyday my landyard hang around my neck to hold my workplace security cards, thumb drive and my office key. Last time I lost my thumb drive so many times because of misplace. Now, I never lost my thumb drive again after clipping it to the lanyard. Besides, it looks cool to hang the lanyard around the neck. Just my personal opinion.

Lanyards are real popular, and also because of the cheap production cost, very cost efficient way to promote one’s brand.
The use is really wide, from school kids to company workers, convention goers to sport event, there is many chance to give it out to everyone to hang there entry pass, there name, there organisation name there…with your brands logo/name also visible.

I remember one of my friend giving me a landyard to hold my cell phone, the obvious reasons were that he was tired of hearing me saying that I have lost my cell phone again. The branding was that of NOKIA, and I thought they are already so famous why would they make NOKIA landyards, and then I thought WHY NOT.

Lanyards is very important for maintaining our security, especially the electronic devices, which are expensive. It is better to have a few dollars on these things, to our security elements expensive. I have an ipod and for a few months, I have no cable or a cover to protect the security hold. My friend has recommended to me, without danger to keep so long that I bought, because if we give hundreds of dollars on gadgets, it is better to spend a few dollars in order to protect them.

Lanyard is also of importance. Some people may think what is Lanyard all about? It is quite strange to some so Lanyard are neck strap or ID cord. It is also a good promotional products because it is of used as well. It is most popular in office since in different country they are still using ID in school or at work. It becomes popular because it is also inexpensive and durable. So whatever is the status in life or the gender Lanyard blends well with people .

Lanyards work well to make the employees feel close to the company, as opposed to the customer. This is ofcourse my opinion but so it could be wrong but I feel these things give a legitimacy to the company for employees rather then for buyers.

Lanyards are great and also cheap way to promote your brand successfully. A nice lanyard can be appealing for the youngers as well, as practical for convention goers. This can be a product to successfully target people from different age groups. Also, being in the neck, many can see, read, notice your brand name/product.

This is a good idea, it’s functional, and it represents that the person using it is fond of your brand. It also is visible to be seen by all others around. I think advertising on both the lanyard and the neck strap could also be beneficial to a company seeking to have their brand exposed.

Lanyards work well for mainly mobile phones. I got a lanyard from a big multi national company, it was a good way of advertising your company. It had no logo at all, just the name of the company was inscribed on it. Thumbs up to lanyards.

Lanyards are very much popular in schools and offices. Usually, it is used to hold ids. However, there are now new uses for lanyards. I already see a lot of people who are using it to hang their cellphones and players on their neck. And certainly, lanyards could be printed with product brands, company logos or any message for that effect.
Though this is not as popular as that of the perennial promotional pen or mug, I think a lot of marketers are now seeing its great potential to carry the message resulting into greater product awareness and visibility. and I think this is not an expensive way of promotion.

Hardly heard about it anywhere else on internet.I think this concept is growing rapidly and used by most of the business people due to its usablity and stylish look. Its better to use them in mobiles.i think it works wonderfull when provided with mobile phones.
Thanks for all information you provided on this topic i was searching for it so long.

I was in auto expo recently, i saw various companies lining up their cars & with them the models who wore lanyards of the company cars they were representing. The car manufacturers were giving free lanyards to the visitors & it was a hit. Many people liked them due to their trendy designs. I think lanyards are probably the cheapest way & worthy way of marketing your company.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
@Bowman: I agree. They’re even cheaper then buying pens. People seem to like them just as much as pens, maybe more. So next time I go looking for some cheap advertising I’m gonna buy a pack of lanyards.

It’s true that at big events like that you can lose track of a lot of things. A lanyard can help prevent that loss by hooking on your keys, a pen and your badge. This type of promotional gift would work really well in such settings. I think a lot of people would be really grateful you are there.

Even libraries are using this idea for their computer access now, and I think it’s a great idea all around, just for the sake of convenience and safety. And the implications for keeping track of things like admission, sales, and use of services makes it a great breakthrough.

It sounds interesting but I am not sure that I agree with you completely….
